    Re: anyone an R.E.M fan?

    Solitude:
I have every disc through Reveal, which I didn't listen to very much.  I have quite a bit of live stuff too.  I saw them in 1995 in Cleveland.  They (and U2) were one of my favorites until I heard Pearl Jam and AIC, then I lost some interest.  But, they have a huge place in my heart.   Automatic for the ppl is one of my stranded on an island discs.

I totally agree about the stranded on an island CDs, but I'd take then all hehehe

I kinda felty the same about Reveal then I realized in the truck one day that I had several favorites that are as high caliber as anything they've done. Chorus and the Ring is haunting like Whale and Wasp. and Stipes lyrics have become more brilliant with the time... an absolute genius...

thats when the insults start to sting

    you can't remember anything

    CONCIDER THIS;

THE BEATLES dominated the musical landscape of the 60's [whether you like them or not is irrelevent/it's based on contribution and innovation/personally I don't care for the Beatles]

    LED ZEPPELIN ruled the 70's

R.E.M. opened doors throughout the 80's

ALICE IN CHAINS sored above the clouds in the 90's

SYSTEM OF A DOWN have lit many candles for this decade

All of this is can be challenged and debated but I will bet big money that AIC enter the RnR Hall of Fame on The first year they are eligeble... and then in turn System too

Beatles Zep and R.E.M. are all in the Hall of Fame now and ppl, that list is very very short and an elite group.

My fav bands? 1 R.E.M. 2 Zeppelin 3 Alice in Chains 4 several bands including System/Nirvana/Floyd

Technically I believe Zep is the greatest band that every will be. Their songs are as if they are being created as you listen to them. I still don't know most of the titles/dont need to, its about the sound hehehe

    Re: anyone an R.E.M fan?

one month after the 911 attacts we went to St Louis to see SLIPKNOT, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, MUDVAYNE,RAMMSTEIN, and AMERICAN HEADCHARGE and it was spectacular/they all "BROUGHT IT" that night RAMMSTEIN is like a circus with music hehehe those dudes are serious pyromaniacs hehe the lead singer has a mohawk /probably cause he wears a burning coat to start the show and he burned his hair off hehehe

They all had great stage sets but SYSTEM  just had a video screen yet the stole the show musically. They were so tight and coordinated it's clear to me they are a great band above all else [at least 5 years ago] today idk/I'm a little out of touch... Geeked

END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!

(it's time I had some time alone)

    and I feel fine...

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mountains sit in a line.

Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
    You symbiotic, patriotic,
    Slam, but neck, right? Right!

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine

    _______________________________________________________________

    *******INTERMISSION*******

    an statement by Dee Presser

Note the repititious usage of the initials L.B. (Lester Banks is a writer, and started Spin Magazine)]. Lenny Bruce was an outspoken comedian that was 'Black Listed' for many years due to his opinions and the unsuccessful attempts to censor his act.
Bernstein was of coarse a brilliant composer and Leonid Brezhniv was President of the U.S.S.R.

Significance? Each of these individuals declared in their own way that it was the end of the world. Banks felt Led Zeppelin was the pinnacle of rock and roll and everything thereafter would be copycat rehash. Interesting.

Brezhniv was convinced that all governments should all switch to a socialistic state like the Soviet Union had introduced and implimented. He believed that it was only a matter of time before capitalism would collapse and the Soviets could step in and "save the day" through their idiotical ooops I mean ideological concepts. Interesting as well.

Lenny Bruce felt like he already lived in an oppressed society, where Big Brother was controlling everything. The words you hear, the songs you sing... the pictures that give pleasure to your eye. Very interesting.

_______SIDEBAR: There will never be another comedian like Bruce or Andy Kaulfman for that matter. Why? Because there are precautions now in place to intercept and detour "loose cannons" that deviate from the standard or established set of rules surrounding governmental criticism, class inequality and general lack of respect for ones bureaucratic superiors. Kaulfman made complete asses of some very, VERY important individuals, and they and their successors aren't about to let someone like that climb the ladder again. Sad really, if you think about it. Of coarse there are exceptions to the rule. Richard Pryor and Dave Chappell comes to mind among others.

Leonard Bernstein felt he was last in an elite line, having filled the shoes of Mozart, Beethoven and Bach. Thus all great pieces have now been written. OH THATS JUST HORSESHIT! I mean... interesting.

~~NOW BACK TO OUR FEATURE PRESENTATION~~

    ____________________________________________________________

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane-
    Lenny Bruce is not afraid.

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn-
World serves it's own needs, don't misserve your own needs.

    Feed it up a knock.
    Speed, grunt no, strength no.

Ladder structure clatter with fear of height, down hight.

Wire in a fire, representing seven games in a government for hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck.

Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered, crop. Look at that low plane!

Fine, then. Uh oh, overflow, population, common group, but it'll do.

Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves it's own needs Listen to your heart bleed.

Tell me with the rapture and the revered and the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty psyched?

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine
It's time I had some time alone)
    I feel fine

[FUCKING BRILLIANT] And it's not even their masterpiece in this writer's opinion.

    deiderique(sp)..nice to meet a fellow R.E.M. fan.

(Solitude, thanks for the *blink icon, and happiness.)

Stipe's lyrics, he--and you--are not only far smarter than me, but it's his voice, sorry. I could puzzle out "End of the World" lyrics for a long time, but I prefer "It's Been a Bad Day"

I was late to AIC and REM, but, they are my favorite sound, I agree on the angst thing. There is an *angst* thing going on with both Staley and Stipe. But one hit the POP circuit a decade before.  REM is kinda POP, AIC is alternative metal, with all the force Staley and Cantrell pumped.

Other than that, I LOVE my R.E.M.!!! Stipe's voice is my Beyond.

It's been a bad day was written many moons ago, before the Document CD, and it morphed into The end of the world(as we know it). Then it was resurrected and polished up for the The Best Of R.E.M. CD.... interesting /they do have a similar flow and feeling I think... and they both address political and social issues off the cuff, and they both seem happy and upbeat; and the title line in each song hints at an underlining fear(?). Angst at its finest. hehe

    BAD DAY

A Public service announcement followed me home the other day
I paid it nevermind. Go away.
Shit so thick you could stir with a stick- free Teflon whitewashed presidency
We're sick of being jerked around
    Wear that on your sleeve

Broadcast me a joyful noise unto the times, lord,
    Count your blessings.
We're sick of being jerked around
    We all fall down.

Have you ever seen the televised St. vitus subcommittee prize
    Investigation dance? Those-ants-in- pants glances.
    Well, look behind the eyes
    It's a hallowed, hollow anesthesized
"save my own ass, screw these guys"
    Smoke and mirror lock down

Broadcast me a joyful noise unto the times, lord,
    Count your blessings.
    The papers wouldn't lie!
    I sigh. Not one more

    It's been a bad day.
    Please don't take a picture
    It's been a bad day.
    Please

We're dug in the deep the price is steep.
The auctioneer is such a creep.
The lights went out, the oil ran dry
We blamed it on the other guy
Sure, all men are created equal.
Here's the church, here's the steeple
Please stay tuned--we cut to sequel
Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

Broadcast me a joyful noise unto the times, lord, Count your blessings.
Embrace the lowest fear/Ignore the lower fears
    Ugh, this means war.

    It's been a bad day.
    Br.

Broadcast me a joyful noise unto the times, lord,
    Count your blessings.
We're sick of being jerked around
    We all fall down.

    It's been a bad day...
    Pleaase...
