Re: Sept 14 ~ Concord CA [Sleep Train Pavillion]

OH MY GOD!!!! our guys rocked SO HARD tonight and my seat was AWESOME!! Thank you so much Gwen!!!

I needed more of that though. They played a solid set but some of my favorites were missing. I wish they had a longer set. Down In A Whole, Got Me Wrong, Stay Away were dearly missed. But the entire band was just in perfect harmony with one another. William's voice was even better live than any recording I heard so far.  He and the rest of the band have a wonderful chemistry going. I know that, where ever he may be, Layne is probably looking at them and giving them his blessings.

Unfortunately, I was not able to take any pictures because I was not able to bring in my camera into the venue. I did however record a little bit of Rain When I Die into my camera's little recorder.

Well since Jerry wanted us to buy some fucking tshirt (people who were at the show will know what I am talking about ;P)...I bought mine :-) It is the brown one with the cool pyramid and the eye with eagle wings.

This experience made me want even more. So, now I am actually considering going to the Seattle Show! How fucking cool will that be, the band being backed by an entire orchestra????

Great show!!!!!  The band was tight, and the sound was good and FAST, freight train styleBig Smile.  Jerry brought out a guitar that I hadn't seen him use before, a beautiful red color, not sure of the maker.  I love when he brings out cheetah though, my favorite guitar!!  Because of the tight schedule, it doesn't allow much time for some of the extended solo's or between song banter (which I love both), but it did not tarnish the performance.  It just makes want to catch another show to hear moreCool They played Again, Grind, Rain When I Die, Dam That River, Nutshell, Would, Man In the Box, Rooster

It was cool to hear the audience's response to Alice. Everyone from the people working the show to newcomers were talking about how great they sounded.  No suprise, it's just nice to hear!!  I can't wait to see another show you guys, thank you for a fun evening!!

Re: Concord, CA (Sleep Train Pavillion) 9.14.07

One of the best shows I have seen.  The Chains were in full force and it was amazingto behold.  I am not 100% on the set list so I will let someone else post that but these were the highlights for me:

Again  -  They were all playing really freely and it sounded great.  I don't know if they just have a better set-up this time around but I thought the sound was much better than when I saw them last year.  William deserves a lot of credit.  I know there are those who cannot accept Alice without Layne and I understand that but this man can sing.  He certainly put Weiland to shame.  Not only does he have some serious pipes but he seems really comfortable playing with the guys.  This is the 4th time I've seem William with Jerry (two times on the Degredation Trip tour) and it just keeps getting better.  It is now official in my book...the Chains are back.  Ok back to the show...

Rain When I Die -  Killed it!  Though my memory is a little fuzzy (damn brownie) I know this was amazing because I remember telling myself that during the show.

Sludge Factory - Killer Jerry guitar work.  Loved the solo on this one. (Jerry nailed all his solos and that is pretty much always the case but he was truly on fire this night).

Grind -  Love to hear the stuff off the Tripod album because I feel like those songs didn't get the due they deserve.  A lot of the fans around me seemed a lot more into the stuff off Dirt and Facelift but I was so glad we got a little bit of everything.

Lots of other great songs of couse but I will skip to the end to mention:

Rooster -  The best version of this song I have seen them play and sent a nice little message too.  We should all thank the boys for having the balls to make a statement against bulls**t wars.  Jerry had some stickers on his guitar which in combination said f**k war and had an
American flag in the middle.  Pretty clear.  The old footage from the original video mixed with clips of Bush Jr. and Cheney were quite appropriate. The funny thing was that there were actually army recruiters at the show.  I made a point of getting in their faces a couple of times.  I mean what a disgrace to the fans and the band to have those guys at the show.  I told them they should get the f**k out.  I will be calling the venue to make sure that never happens again.

So in summary- As much as I wanted to enjoy the Velvet Revolver set and they did have their moments (Mr. Brownstone) it was clear that the more professional and authentic band was Alice.  And with the number of songs that they could be playing I just wish they had the headlining spot.  At the very least it should have been evenly split.

Wow, absolutely amazing show, I came in a bit skeptical with DuVall, but he nailed it. The energy, stage presence, everything, that show kicked ass.

I was lucky enough to go backstage after the show, Mike Inez took us down to the dressing rooms, had a few drinks, and hung out. He's an amazing guy, so down to earth, really funny. We got some pics, he gave me a pick, it was awesome. My Dad knows him really well from when they were kids, so we got complimentary VIP tickets.

It was a night I'll never forget in my whole life. Keep on rockin' AIC!

Re: Concord, CA (Sleep Train Pavillion) 9.14.07

What a show!!! I saw them last year at Boardstock in Clear Lake and I was apprehensive at first since I was unfamiliar with the new lead singer.. BUT after the first song I was up in the air rockin out for the entire set!

Last night (although the box seats I had was way father back than the third row center we had last year) was just as exciting. I wish they would have played longer since Velvet Revolver was 1 HOUR LATE (fucking divas) because the energy fell way off after AIC. I hope more people realize that you can carry your own as top billing soon as you guys are as great as you were years back.

Re: Concord, CA (Sleep Train Pavillion) 9.14.07

AIC kicked Velvets Ass. They brought it bigtime. The soundman did a great job too. Velvet sounded rough like the early days of GnR. The Red Guitar Jerry plaed was a G&l . I think he play's legacy models and of Course Gibson Les Pauls. William was very good .I think they could have turned him up a little . This was my second time seeing AIC . First time was on the Clash of the titans tour. I think that was their first big tour. Anyhow I wish them the best hope to see a new cd someday of new songs!!! and next time they come back to Northern California I will be there for sure. Hopefuly they will be headlining. I think they should back it down a tad . They completely blew away the headline act. Who were at least a hour and a half late to take the stage. I thought Axl might have re-joined the band. Turns out Scott is still with them and he came out and looked like a bad cruise ship captain. On second thought keep kicking there Ass guys.!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Concord, CA (Sleep Train Pavillion) 9.14.07

Here's the setlist off the top of my head, I don't think the order is right, but I think these are all the songs:

Hopefully someone can list the correct order.

    Again

    Grind

    Rain When I Die

    Sludge Factory

    Dam That River

    Them Bones

     We Die Young

    Nutshell

    Would?

    Angry Chair

    Man In The Box

    --------------

    Rooster

Great setlist, given that it was an hour show.  The band sounded great.  William DuVall is a good singer.  He sounds similar to Layne in some respects, and William nailed many of the vocals.   First time seeing them.

Velvet Revolver:  I thought they did a good job too.  Scott lost his vocals a bit on the last few songs.  But they had a good setlist too, and played well.  They picked the right STP and GnR songs, IMO.

During "Patience", towards the end when it's supposed to be "I been walking the streets",  was Scott lip-syncing over Axl, at that part?  It kind of sounded like it.

I thought Scott was entertaining to watch.  His vocals were pretty good too, except the last few songs.

Velvet Revolver songs sounded a little better than I was used to.  But I'm still not a big fan of their songs, they are ok.  But nothing that would make me get a CD.

    Great concert.

Crowd was sparse during AIC though, that was disappointing.

Does anyone know the correct Velvet Revolver setlist?

Re: Concord, CA (Sleep Train Pavillion) 9.14.07

I was a bit disappointed by the way the riff from "Angry Chair" sounded.  It sounded more "metallic" in the studio, while live it sounded "crunchier".    Maybe I'm not explaining it right, but I don't think it sounded the same live.  But oh well.

"Rooster" seemed to be played slower than normal.

My wish list for some additional songs, if they had more time:  "A Little Bitter", "Head Creeps", "Rotten Apple", "Right Turn", "Died".

Velvet Revolver:  cover "Got Me Wrong."  (Scott has done that before.)

I don't know why, but I thought Sean Kinney was fun to watch on drums.

What song from the show do you think has the most prominent drum role?

I can't wait for the guys to have a headlining tour and give us at least 2-hour music!

You see, I am a spoiled Pearl Jammer, so I expect the same thing from my other favorite band :-)

I went to my first Pearl Jam concert last year.  I hear you man, 2+ hours! (Do you remember how long exactly they played?  2 hours 10 minutes?)

I didn't think anyone could play longer than them, but a few months ago, the Smashing Pumpkins played for 2 hours, 40 minutes!

Hopefully we'll be in for a 1 hour, 45 minute - 2 hour show if/when Alice In Chains headlines sometime.
